Frozen or burst pipes: Pipes that have not been insulated correctly can burst during the cold winter months. Dormant water pipes in the winter have a greater chance of causing water damage to your property as stagnant` water freezes faster.  The water in the pipes can freeze and might lead to the burst or freezing of water lines.  Frozen copper and CPVC lines are most prone to freeze and burst.  PEX water lines are more expandable but it can cause PEX connections to break and leak.

Blocked pipes: The drain pipes in your house can get clogged for a variation of reasons.  Kitchen drain lines can build up grease over the years and foods like potatoes and rice can cause a clogged drain line. Bathroom sinks, showers, and bathtubs, particularly if they do not have drain filters to avoid hair from building up in them over time, can clog and lead to water overflow damage.  When AC drain lines become clogged in the hot summer months it can lead to considerable damage, wet carpet, wet drywall and more in finished  basements. 

Collapsed drain lines: A great deal of homes in Michigan are on slabs or have drain lines under cement.  Those lines can collapse, deteriorate, or break unexpectedly.  The only way to access and repair them is breaking the concrete floor for plumbing.
